Geniet van het echte expeditiegevoel!
De Hondius is in 2019 nieuw gebouwd als ’s werelds eerste geregistreerde Polar Class 6 passagiersschip en is daarmee een van de meest robuuste en technologisch geavanceerde poolcruiseschepen. Hoewel het schip zeer elegant is ontworpen, is wat ons het meest bevalt aan de Hondius de kenmerkende gezellige en informele sfeer aan boord. Je geniet van hotelcomfort terwijl je het echte expeditiegevoel ervaart.
Tijdens een expeditiecruise zijn landingen aan de wal en zodiaccruises van essentieel belang. Zodiacs brengen gasten in een mum van tijd naar de wal. Om het aan boord gaan van de zodiacs te versnellen, is de Hondius uitgerust met twee grote laaddeuren en overdekte en beschutte aanmeerplaatsen voor de zodiacs. Hierdoor zijn de zodiacs gemakkelijk toegankelijk. Door gebruik te maken van enkele van de nieuwste duurzame technologieën kan de Hondius het brandstofverbruik en de CO2-uitstoot laag houden. Het schip is ook uitgerust met stabilisatoren die een veilige verkenning van het Noordpoolgebied en Antarctica mogelijk maken.
De Hondius heeft accommodaties voor 170 passagiers, variërend van grote suites met balkon tot vierpersoons hutten met patrijspoort, die met andere personen gedeeld kunnen worden. Alle hutten hebben zeezicht en een warm, kleurrijk interieur. Alle twee-, drie- en vierpersoonshutten met patrijspoort bevinden zich op dek 3, waar je ook de zodiac boarding area vindt. De luxere hutten bevinden zich op de hogere dekken.
De grote observatielounge/bar en de presentatieruimte bevinden zich op dek 5. Beide zalen worden gebruikt voor een grote verscheidenheid aan lezingen en workshops door de expeditiegidsen. In het restaurant op dek 4 worden drie keer per dag heerlijke maaltijden geserveerd: ontbijt en lunch zijn in buffetvorm, het diner wordt meestal aan tafel opgediend. Fruit, snacks, koffie en thee zijn de hele dag verkrijgbaar in de lounge.

Alle tweepersoonshutten met raam bevinden zich op dek 4, waar je ook het restaurant vindt. De zodiac boarding area is slechts één dek naar beneden, de presentatieruimte en de lounge zijn één dek naar boven.
Houd er rekening mee dat het uitzicht vanuit sommige hutten gedeeltelijk belemmerd kan zijn.

De observatielounge en bar zijn centraal gelegen op dek 5. Deze ruimte is het hart van het schip, waar iedereen samenkomt na een dag vol activiteiten. Drink een drankje, speel een spelletje met andere gasten of geniet gewoon van het uitzicht als het weer te slecht is om naar buiten te gaan. Er is genoeg zitruimte voor iedereen aan boord, dus de meeste lezingen worden hier gehouden. Het koffiestation is de hele dag beschikbaar en vaak vind je hier ook fruit en wat snacks.

Het restaurant aan boord van de Hondius bevindt zich op dek 4. Er zijn geen vooraf toegewezen zitplaatsen, zodat je elke keer op een andere plek kunt zitten. Ontbijt en lunch worden geserveerd als buffet, het diner wordt aan tafel opgediend. Tijdens de lunch wordt je gevraagd een keuze te maken uit het dinermenu voor die avond. De koks doen hun uiterste best om tegemoet te komen aan eventuele voedselallergieën of beperkingen.
De expeditiegidsen schuiven vaak aan tafel aan, een geweldige kans om een praatje te maken over hun ervaringen met poolreizen.
