Although all our expeditions offer great photographic opportunities, we believe a true photography trip requires a different approach. Travelling in a small group, guided by professionals who are not only great photographers but also experts at wildlife behaviour. You will get to explore your destination at a slow pace with the utmost respect for nature and wildlife.
Small group photography expeditions
Our dedicated photography expeditions take place on board expedition ships for 12 to 16 passengers. We’ve chosen these ships specifically for their small size and unique features like large outside decks and space for photo editing. Travelling on board a small expedition ship allows us to reach places where larger ships can’t get to. At the same time, we are not restricted by a tight sailing schedule. Our guides will determine the programme as they go, taking into account weather, daylight and wildlife sightings. This way we can optimise our time and offer the best possible photography.
Catering to both amateurs and the more serious photographer, the onboard professional will pass on tips to get the most out of your equipment and the unique wildlife conditions. You can ask questions to improve your own work and stay alongside our photography expert during excursions, gaining valuable insights while out in the field. Whether it be sitting quietly in a frozen fjord, waiting for a polar bear to appear, viewing birds on a towering cliff face, or enjoying the thrill of whale watching from a zodiac, the opportunities are endless.
Photography from the zodiac
Our zodiacs, small inflatable rubber boats, are our main method of transportation for off-ship activities. They offer great water-lever views, a wonderful way to photograph wildlife, especially whales. With two guides, and two zodiacs, there will only be 6-8 guests in our zodiac at once. Leaving plenty of space to position yourself for taking pictures comfortably.
Photography on land
Although you can take lots of spectacular images from the ship, we will also go ashore to get a different perspective and view certain wildlife from up close. Especially for northern lights photography it’s crucial to have a steady base in order to take good pictures.
