The first time you see the Northern Ligths is probably the most impressive. When you travel above the Arctic circle in winter, you know there’s a good chance you’ll get to see them. Each night that passes with cloudy skies will build up the tension, making it even more magical when the Aurora finally makes her appearance!
During our expedition cruises in Northern Norway we pay extra attention to this natural phenomenon. When the lights appear, we try to find a good place to photograph them. Away from other lights, and preferably somewhere you can go ashore to get the best pictures.
Norway isn’t the only place where you can witness the magical green aurora. When travelling to Greenland or Svalbard at the end of summer, the nights will be just dark enough for the lights to appear. But as with anything in nature, you’ll need good weather and some luck for your search to succeed.
