Supporting sustainable tourism in the Arctic
Waterproof Expeditions is a member of AECO, the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators. AECO is a membership organisation representing Arctic expedition cruise operators and industry stakeholders. AECO is dedicated to ensuring that expedition cruise tourism benefits the regions it visits, with a strong focus on the natural environment, cultural preservation, local communities, and safe operations at sea and on land.
As expeditioners, we have to minimise our impact on this beautiful region. We work together with AECO operators and take great pride in educating our passengers on responsible travel to the Arctic. All guests travelling to the Arctic will receive documents, provided by AECO, on wilderness etiquette and visitor guidelines in order to prepare for their expedition.
ONGOING ARCTIC PROJECTS
AECO is involved in numerous projects throughout the Arctic. These projects are based on their four core values and strategic priorities. These projects include scientific reserach, beach clean-ups, wildlife sightings, cultural information, and citizen science projects, such as Happy Whale.
