Poolsnorkelen
Neem een kijkje in de ijzige onderwaterwereld
In 2010 hebben wij een geweldige nieuwe activiteit ontwikkeld: Poolsnorkelen. Speciaal voor reizigers die geen duikervaring hebben maar wel de onderwater wereld van de poolgebieden willen ontdekken. Samen met onze partner Waterproof International in Zweden hebben we een comfortabel snorkel droogpak ontworpen dat we voor het eerst hebben getest tijdens onze expedities naar Antarctica. Het werd al snel duidelijk dat dit een fantastische activiteit is voor iedereen die houdt van zwemmen en snorkelen.
Snorkelen stelt je in staat om de schoonheid van een bestemming zowel boven als onder water te zien, en het is onze passie om dit met onze gasten te delen. Daarom bieden we verschillende soorten snorkeltrips aan, van speciale snorkelexpedities waarbij de focus helemaal op snorkelen ligt, tot expeditiecruises waarbij je een optionele snorkelexcursie kunt boeken. Naast poolsnorkelen bieden we ook snorkeltrips aan naar warmere oorden zoals Tonga, waar je kunt zwemmen met bultrugwalvissen!
Speciale snorkelexpedities
Tijdens onze speciale snorkelexpedities, zoals de Winter Whales of Norway Expedities, proberen we elke dag te gaan snorkelen. Zodra onze gidsen een goede gelegenheid zien om te gaan snorkelen, trekt iedereen zijn uitrusting aan en gaan we het water in. Onze experts bieden snorkelaars professionele ondersteuning en duidelijke procedures voor een veilige snorkelervaring. Ze zorgen er ook voor dat alle snorkelaars op een veilige afstand blijven om de dieren niet te storen.
Waterproof® Snorkelpakket
Voor het poolsnorkelen tijdens onze Winter Whales of Norway Expedities voorzien we je van een comfortabel Waterproof droogpak en snorkeluitrusting. Soms blijven we meerdere uren op het water, het speciaal ontworpen droogpak houdt je warm en zorgt er ook voor dat je blijft drijven op het water. Daarnaast kun je ook onze thermo overal huren zodat je zeker geen kou zult hebben tijdens het snorkelen.
Snorkelen als optionele activiteit
Naast onze speciale snorkeltrips is het op sommige expeditiecruises ook mogelijk om snorkelen als extra activiteit bij te boeken. Ervaring is niet nodig en de uitrusting wordt aan boord verstrekt. Tijdens je reis krijg, waar mogelijk, de kans om te gaan snorkelen. Daarnaast kun je deelnemen aan de reguliere excursies zoals zodiac cruises en wandelingen aan land. Snorkelen wordt als optionele activiteit aangeboden op slechts enkele expeditiecruises, bijvoorbeeld op een aantal reizen naar Antarctica. Je krijgt zo de kans om te snorkelen op plekken waar bijna niemand ooit een kijkje onder water heeft genomen.

Let op: Voor snorkelactiviteiten op speciale reizen is vaak een minimum aantal deelnemers nodig. De activiteit is altijd afhankelijk van de weersomstandigheden en onze gidsen zullen bepalen of het veilig is om het water in te gaan in de buurt van wilde dieren.
FAQ
Aan boord van onze speciale poolsnorkelexpedities in Noord-Noorwegen voorzien we je van hoogwaardige snorkeluitrusting van onze partner Waterproof International in Zweden. Deze items zijn speciaal ontworpen voor snorkelen in koud water:
Waterproof Snorkeldroogpak
Onze snorkeldroogpakken zijn gemaakt van een ademende ultralichte stof met een rits aan de voorkant en latex afdichtingen voor de nek en polsen.
Thermo overall
Naast je snorkelpak voorzien we je van een thermische overall, speciaal ontworpen om onderaan te dragen. De overalls zijn heerlijk warm en kun je ook dragen wanneer je bijvoorbeeld buiten aan dek staat.
Waterproof, High Visibility kap
Onze High Visibility Hoods hebben een fel oranje oppervlak met reflecterende vlekken voor ultieme zichtbaarheid en detectie in woelige zeeën en omstandigheden met weinig licht. Ze bieden ook dubbellaagse bescherming op kritieke plaatsen waar warmte verloren gaat en glide skin seals voor de hals en het gezicht.
Waterproof 7 mm G1 wanten
Onze semi-droge 3-vinger handschoenen hebben getapete naden, een glide skin binnenzijde voor gemakkelijk aan- en uittrekken en een sneldrogend oppervlak. De handschoenen maken deel uit van de ‘Polar Evoluted’ serie van Waterproof. Deze items zijn beproefd in de poolgebieden.
Waterproof B5 Laarzen
De neopreenlaarzen zijn een stevige, met rubber verstevigde zachte laars met verstelbare riemen en een speciale ‘vinbandstopper’ om te voorkomen dat je vinnen eraf glijden. Sommige snorkelpakken hebben laarzen die vast zitten aan het pak.
Aan boord zorgen we ook voor snorkels, maskers en vinnen, maar we raden aan om je eigen masker mee te nemen als je er een hebt.
Onze overalls zijn speciaal ontworpen om direct over je basislaag te dragen en je warm te houden tijdens het snorkelen in koud water. Ze kunnen ook prima worden gedragen wanneer je buiten op het dek bent of tijdens een excursie aan land. Ze zijn erg comfortabel, gemakkelijk aan te trekken en vooral heerlijk warm. Als je onze overalls gebruikt, heb je ook minder bagage nodig omdat je minder warme kleding hoeft mee te nemen.
Onder de thermo overall draag je nog enkele lagen kleding om warm te blijven. We raden aan om de volgende kleding mee te nemen:
- Voldoende warme sokken, bij voorkeur wol.
- Thermisch ondergoed.
- Warme comfortabele broek, bijvoorbeeld een joggingbroek.
- Warme fleece of wollen trui (zonder col of kraag!).

“Je goed kleden is belangrijk. Wat ik bedoel met je goed kleden, is dat je goed uitgerust moet zijn voor het avontuur dat je te wachten staat. Als je tijdens een expeditie niet de juiste kleding draagt, kan de meest fantastische ervaring overgaan in een ellendige situatie. Voor poolsnorkelen kleed ik me meestal in drie lagen. De eerste laag is een normale dunne basislaag van synthetische of merinowol. Mijn tweede laag is een dikkere thermische onderkleding. Daarbovenop komt de thermo overall die zowel tijdens het snorkelen als erna comfortabel is om te dragen. Tot slot trek ik mijn droogpak, kap, handschoenen en laarzen aan. Et voilà, we zijn klaar voor koude waterpret!”
Als je wilt deelnemen aan onze snorkelactiviteiten raden we je aan om wat snorkelervaring op te doen. Je hebt echter geen duikervaring nodig. Poolsnorkelen is leuk, fascinerend en gemakkelijk om te doen. Een geweldige activiteit voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in het fascinerende landschap onder het oppervlak van de poolwateren.
Wij geloven dat de poolgebieden meer te bieden hebben dan alleen het landschap en de dieren boven water. Beeld je in dat je in het koude poolwater rond Antarctica drijft en pinguïns door het water ziet schieten. Of zwem in de diepe fjorden van Noorwegen met orka’s en bultruggen op slechts enkele meters afstand.
Poolsnorkelen is toegankelijk voor gasten vanaf 16 jaar, maar alleen als er een droogpak in hun maat beschikbaar is. Houd er rekening mee dat we een beperkt aantal maten aan boord hebben. Extreme maten zijn niet beschikbaar. Raadpleeg onze maattabel voor meer informatie.
Draag je een bril? Het is helaas niet mogelijk om je bril onder je snorkelmasker te dragen. We raden je aan contactlenzen te dragen of een duikbril op sterkte te mee te brengen.
Houd er rekening mee dat we een beperkt aantal maten aan boord hebben. Als je denkt dat onze maten je niet zullen passen, raden we je aan om je eigen droogpak en onderkleding mee te nemen.
