Ship
Hondius
Enjoy that real expedition feeling
Hondius was newly built in 2019 as the world’s first-registered Polar Class 6 passenger vessel, making her one of the most sturdy and technologically advanced polar cruise ships. Though the ship is very elegantly designed, what we like most about Hondius is the distinctive cozy and informal atmosphere on board. You will enjoy hotel comfort while experiencing that real expedition feeling.
Shore landings and zodiac cruises are of the essence during an expedition cruise. A large fleet of rigid-hull inflatable zodiacs will bring guests to shore in no-time. To help speed up the zodiac boarding operations, Hondius is featured with two large shell doors and a sheltered indoor zodiac boarding area. This enables easy access to the zodiacs at water level. Using some of the latest sustainable technologies, Hondius can keep fuel efficiency high and CO2 emissions low. The ship is also equiped with stabilizers that make her highly suitable for swift and safe exploration of the Arctic and Antarctica.
Hondius offers accommodation for 170 passengers, ranging from grand suites with balconies to quadruple porthole cabins that can be booked on a sharing basis. All cabins have outside views and a warm, colorful interior. All twin, triple and quadruple porthole cabins are located on deck 3, which is where you’ll also find the zodiac boarding area. The more luxurious cabins are situated on the higher decks.
The large observation lounge/bar and lecture room are located on deck 5. Both of these rooms are used for a wide variety of lectures and workshops by the expedition guides. You’ll find the restaurant on deck 4, where the greatest meals are served three times a day. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, dinner is usually served at the table. Fruit, snacks, coffee and tea are available in the lounge throughout the day.

Why we love Hondius
- Very warm and welcoming atmosphere
- True expedition style vessel
- Very stable, even in rough seas
- Optional Polar Diving activity
- Complimentary wifi
