Ship
Sylvia Earle
Comfortable basecamp for adventures across the globe
The 2022 built Sylvia Earle, with its remarkable bow, is robust and powerful, yet elegantly designed for up to 130 passengers. Sylvia Earle is the sister ship of Greg Mortimer, both state of the art modern expedition vessels.
The streamlined X-bow design of Sylvia Earle cuts through the ocean swell, making passages through rough polar waters quicker, less fuel consuming and more comfortable. The ship also features a virtual anchoring system that can hold its position without dropping a heavy anchor. This protects the sea life on the ocean floor and prevents damage caused by conventional anchors.
A unique feature of Sylvia Earle is the large glass atrium lounge inside the bow, with big windows that offer great views of the surrounding landscape. Something else many guests will appreciate, are the heated jacuzzis on the top deck. Here you can enjoy a moment of relaxation inbetween landings, without having to miss any of the beautiful scenery as the ship sails on to the next location.
To explore the polar destinations up close, Sylvia Earle features a sea-level activity platform and four zodiac boarding areas. These make boarding the zodiacs very easy and safe, minimising waiting times so that you can have more time to explore. On board, a fully equipped Citizen Science Centre, expert lectures and science programs are available to enrich your knowledge and connection to the places we travel to.
The ships name pays tribute to Dr. Sylvia Earle, a highly accomplished marine biologist, oceanographer and explorer. She was the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and was named Hero for the Planet in 1998 by Time Magazine. Dr. Sylvia Earle has been actively involved in the development of her namesake.
