Ship
Magellan Explorer
Navigating the Antarctic
Magellan Explorer is a new and modern expedition vessel, custom-built for Antarctic ‘air-cruises’. During these expeditions, you will fly over the Drake Passage to Antarctica, where you’ll then board your expedition ship. The small size of the ship makes your experience very personal, and offers great operational flexibility.

Highglights of Magellan Explorer
- One of the smallest ships in Antarctica
- Fly & Cruise expeditions
- Modern and light interior
- Large forward-facing observation deck
- Great flexibility and adaptability
For these Antarctic air cruises, Magellan Explorer has capacity for 76 passengers accommodated in seven categories of cabins, including several dedicated single cabins. All cabins, except porthole cabins, feature private balconies. Most of the double cabins have two twin beds that can be configured as one king-size bed. You will also find a wardrobe, individually controlled heating system, a sitting area, and a private bathroom with shower. The ship features a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room, a spacious and stylish dining room, a well-stocked bar, a library, a meeting room, a gym, a sauna, and a medical clinic. The forward-facing observation deck leads to the bow of the ship, the best place for wildlife watching. Magellan Explorer has a fleet of 10 zodiacs that will take you for shore landings and cruises along the coast.
“Being on a small ship means; less noise, less distraction and more Antarctica! By default in the polar regions, plans will always change. Being small allows for more flexibility and adaptability for travel plans. And most importantly, staff can establish a personal connection with guests. During an expedition, it seems like we all become part of the same team that is exploring this amazing destination at the end of the world. For me, it’s one of the best parts of the job.” Mariano – Director Expedition Operations of Magellan Explorer
