Weer Groenland
Door de enorme omvang van Groenland zijn er grote variaties tussen het klimaat op verschillende plekken:
- In West Groenland, in de regio rond Nuuk, is het klimaat doorgaans iets milder met zomertemperaturen rond 7 – 10°C.
- In Oost Groenland, nabij Ittoqqortoormiit, liggen de temperaturen wat lager en is het het in de zomer rond de 3 – 6 °C.
Voorafgaand aan je expeditie sturen wij een uitgebreide Travel Guide met onder andere een inpaklijst. Zo ga je goed voorbereid op pad!
Wildlife Groenland
Naast de spectaculaire landschappen en ijsbergen vind je in Groenland een groot aantal pooldieren. Er leven maar liefst 6 soorten zeehonden, waaronder de iconische walrus. Langs de kust leven grote aantallen zeevogels. Papagaaiduikers, zeearenden en eidereenden zijn slechts enkele van de vele soorten die je in Groenland kunt spotten. Langs de kust van Groenland worden regelmatig walvissen gespot. In totaal leven er 16 verschillende walvissen, van kleinere soorten zoals narwals, belugas en bruinvissen tot enorme blauwe vinvissen en bultruggen. De meeste walvissen komen naar de Groenlandse wateren in de zomer, wanneer het ijsvrij is en er voedsel in overvloed is. Alleen de Groenlandse walvis, narwal en beluga overwinteren. Wanneer je aan land gaat, houd dan zeker je camera in de aanslag voor rendieren, kariboes en muskusossen. Als je heel veel geluk hebt, kun je in Groenland zelfs ijsberen spotten!
Dieren aan land in Groenland
- Muskusos – Deze prehistorisch ogende dieren zwerven al grazend door het Arctische landschap.
- Poolvos – Speurt onvermoeibaar de toendra af op zoek naar voedsel, perfect gecamoufleerd in zijn omgeving.
- Poolhaas – Uitstekend aangepast aan het barre klimaat en regelmatig te zien op de toendra in Groenland.
- IJsbeer – De Koning van het Hoge Noorden wordt af en toe gespot op het zee-ijs of in de fjorden.
Zeedieren in Groenland
- Zeehond – Groenland is de thuisbasis van vele zeehondensoorten, zoals de zadelrob, ringelrob, klapmuts en baardrob.
- Walrus – Walrussen zijn vaak te zien op ijsschotsen waar ze uitrusten en zich opwarmen in de zon.
- Walvissen – In de wateren rond Groenland zwemmen zowel tijdelijke migranten als permanente bewoners.
- Zeevogels – Veel vogelsoorten noemen Groenland hun thuis, waaronder papegaaiduikers, zeearenden en eidereenden.
