Het is voor velen een droom om een ijsbeer in zijn natuurlijke omgeving te zien. Voor de beste kans om deze prachtige dieren tegen te komen, moet je naar het hoge noorden reizen. Expedities naar Spitsbergen en het Canadese Noordpoolgebied bieden je de beste kansen om ijsberen te vinden.

Hoewel je op elke expeditiecruise naar het Noordpoolgebied kans hebt om ijsberen te zien, zijn sommige reizen speciaal gericht op het zien en fotograferen van beren. Onze kleine expedities met ijsberen worden geleid door ervaren gidsen die veel weten over de lokale omgeving, het gedrag van wilde dieren en veiligheidsprotocollen. Ze kunnen je ervaring met het bekijken van deze wilde dieren verbeteren en tegelijkertijd zorgen voor minimale verstoring van de beren en hun leefomgeving.
IJsberen in het wild zien is een unieke ervaring, maar het vereist geduld en begrip dat wilde dieren onvoorspelbaar zijn. Wees voorbereid op wisselende weersomstandigheden en wijzigingen in de route op basis van waarnemingen van wilde dieren.

De beste tijd om ijsberen te zien in Spitsbergen is tijdens de zomermaanden, ruwweg van juni tot september. Dit is wanneer het zee-ijs zich heeft teruggetrokken en ijsberen actiever zijn op het land, jagen op zeehonden en socialiseren.
De veiligheid en het welzijn van zowel mensen als wilde dieren heeft onze prioriteit. Het is van cruciaal belang om op veilige afstand van de ijsberen te blijven en de richtlijnen van je gidsen op te volgen om de dieren niet te storen.
Als we ijsberen zien, zullen we ze niet actief benaderen om ze beter te bekijken. We observeren de beren alleen vanaf het schip. Dit is niet alleen de veiligste manier om ijsberen te bekijken, maar zo zullen we ze ook niet afschrikken door plotselinge bewegingen en geluiden.
Als je een ijsbeer ziet terwijl je aan land bent, vragen de gidsen iedereen om onmiddellijk in de zodiacs te gaan en terug te keren naar het schip.
Hoewel je op elke expeditie naar het noordpoolgebied kans hebt om een ijsbeer te zien, hebben we meestal veel meer ontmoetingen tijdens onze reizen met kleine schepen. Deze hebben geen vaste route en zijn voornamelijk gericht op het vinden en fotograferen van ijsberen. Reizen aan boord van een klein schip met slechts 12-16 gasten biedt ons de vrijheid om onze plannen aan te passen aan de waarnemingen van wilde dieren. Als er bijvoorbeeld ijsberen in het gebied zijn, kunnen onze gidsen besluiten om meerdere dagen op dezelfde plek te blijven om de beren en hun gedrag zo goed mogelijk te kunnen zien.
