Expeditions Beyond Earth

Step into otherworldly landscapes

You don’t need a spacesuit to step onto another planet. Across polar deserts and icy frontiers, expedition cruises take you to landscapes so otherworldly and remote, you’ll swear you’ve left Earth! Inspired by the Artemis II lunar mission, we’ve listed our favourite places that feel straight out of NASA’s flight plan:

The South Pole

The Antarctic continent is so silent and vast, it feels like you’ve arrived on a frozen planet where the sun never sets. The extreme remoteness and endless white horizon are unlike any other place on earth. Only a few people get to visit the South Pole each year, making every footstep feel like a polar spacewalk.

Greenland

The sight of colossal blue‑white icebergs drifting silently through the fjords is nothing short of otherworldly. Beneath your feet, Greenland’s bedrock includes some of the oldest rocks on Earth, shaped billions of years ago, proof that Greenland has been around since the earliest chapter of planet Earth’s history.

Jan Mayen

Some say landing on the moon is easier than attempting a landing on Jan Mayen. The stark black lava slopes of Jan Mayen rise straight from the foggy Arctic sea and the remote island is infamous for bad weather and rough seas. Only a handful of travelers manage to set foot on Jan Mayen each year.

Svalbard

Svalbard feels like the staging ground for a lunar expedition. Pointed mountains and sculpted glaciers look like alien terrain from another world. As the ship navigates the ice, you can imagine early polar pioneers were the astronauts of their time, charting this mysterious landscape like a distant planet.

The North Pole

Reaching the North Pole is probably the closest you can get to standing on another planet without leaving Earth. A world of floating, shifting sea ice, stretching in every direction. Here, your compass loses its function, and you find yourself suspended in a place that’s detached from the rest of the planet.

Northern Norway

Northern Norway is one of the places on Earth where you can experience space weather in action. Beneath the shimmering Northern Lights, caused by solar winds and cosmic particles, the sky comes alive, giving you a front‑row seat to space interacting with our atmosphere.

South Georgia

South Georgia is like a wild, forgotten planet where thousands of king penguins, fur seals and elephant seals are the only inhabitants. Amid the extreme landscape lie the ruins of Grytviken, a rusty outpost on a distant world. It’s slowly being reclaimed by nature as penguins and seals wander through its skeletal remains.

South Orkney Islands

The South Orkney Islands rise from the Southern Ocean like a chain of dark, jagged fortresses. In this remote sub‑Antarctic world, katabatic winds roar down from the icefields, sweeping across the islands with a force that feels almost supernatural. The combination of black volcanic cliffs, relentless weather, and ghostly mist gives the South Orkneys an eerie, off‑planet atmosphere.
