Ross Wheeler

Waterproof Guide

Having spent his entire life residing on the Cornish coast of Southwest England, Ross has had a deep fascination with the ocean and marine wildlife for as long as he can remember. This passion inspired him to work on local wildlife tours in Cornwall during his youth, before pursuing undergraduate and master’s degrees in environmental sciences and conservation. Upon completing his studies, Ross volunteered with local charities, conducting surveys of cetaceans and seabirds across the North-East Atlantic. He later served as a marine mammal observer and passive acoustic monitoring operator aboard seismic vessels, where he helped mitigate the impact of offshore operations on marine mammals, seabirds, and turtles in the North Atlantic and Southern African regions.

Since 2019, Ross has worked as an expedition guide in the polar regions, specializing in wildlife photography, marine mammals, and ornithology. His expertise has taken him to the Arctic, Antarctic, and sub-Antarctic regions on numerous occasions. In addition to guiding, Ross holds an environmental compliance role within the passenger ship industry, dedicating up to six months each year to improving the environmental performance of cruise vessels worldwide. Whether guiding, volunteering, or traveling in search of wildlife, Ross remains committed to conservation and the protection of marine ecosystems.
