Snorkeling Drysuit
The most important part of your snorkeling package is the drysuit. Drysuits are designed to keep you completely dry in cold water and must be worn with insulating layers underneath to stay warm while snorkeling. We offer special thermal overalls for this purpose. Our snorkeling drysuits are made from light and breathable fabric with a front zipper. They feature latex neck and wrist seals, and either have boots attached or socks for seperate boots. Note that wearing a drysuit might feel uncomfortable at first due to the tight latex seals around your neck and wrists.
Thermal Overalls
In order to experience a few precious moments with whales in the water, you will likely spend hours on deck and in the zodiac, scanning the surface for a hint of a dorsal fin. It is of the utmost importance to stay warm despite the Arctic elements. We offer insulating thermal overalls which have been specifically designed to wear under your drysuit and to keep you warm while snorkeling in cold water. They are very comfortable and also work perfectly as a windproof outer layer, for example while whale watching from the ship. The overalls will save you a lot of space in your luggage!

How to choose the correct size of your Drysuit & Thermal Overalls
We only have a limited range of sizes available on board. Measure yourself precisely or ask someone to help you. Stand up straight and keep the measuring tape close to your body, write down your measurements and check the size chart. Choose the size that approximates the average of your measurements. When you are in between sizes, go one size up in order to leave some room for your thermal under layers.

A. Height
B. Hips
C. Neck to crotch
D. Shoe size
Important! If you believe our suits will not fit you, we recommend bringing your own drysuit (e.g. a rental suit). We have a very limited selection of drysuits available on board and cannot be held liable if your chosen size does not fit!

Boots, gloves and high visibility hood
In addition to the drysuit, you will wear neoprene marine boots, 7mm semidry 3-finger mittens and a neoprene hood. The bright orange hood has reflective patches for ultimate visibility in choppy sea conditions and low light. It features double layered heat loss protection and glideskin seals for the neck and face. Once fully dressed, only your face will be directly exposed to the cold water.

Mask, snorkel & fins
We provide open heel fins, snorkels and masks in various sizes. If you have your own snorkel and mask, you might want to bring these to ensure you have a well-fitting set. Please note, it’s not possible to use a full-face snorkeling mask!

How to get dressed for Polar Snorkeling
1. Before you start: Take off all your jewellery and make sure you have short nails! This is very important to prevent any damage to the drysuits. The neck and wrist seals are particularly fragile, and sharp jewellery or nails could rupture them.
IMPORTANT! It is a good idea to use the bathroom before putting on your thermal overalls. Unlike wetsuits, in your thermal overalls and dry suit, it is not possible to go to the bathroom.
2. Thermalls: Put on your thermal undergarments and get into your warm thermal overalls.
3. Drysuit: Open the drysuit zipper completely and step in.
- Arms: Gently pull the suit up and slide your arms in. Carefully insert your hands through the seals. Make sure your clothes are tucked away and the seals are flat on you skin.
- Head: Bring the upper portion of the suit over your head. Reach inside the neck seal and pull it over your head gently. Remove any hair from under the neck seal and flatten it against the skin.
- Zipper: Close your drysuit by holding the top of the zipper and pulling the toggle down. Ensure the suit is sealed by completely docking the zipper.
4. Boots: Put on your boots and tighten the velcro straps (note: some of our drysuits have the boots attached to the suit).
5. Hood: Take your hood and flip it upside down, then slide the hood over your head. Make sure to tuck away your hair. Pull the collar down and fold it into the neoprene neck gasket on the drysuit.
6. Gloves: Put on your gloves and zip them up.
7. Finally, don’t forget to bring your mask, snorkel and fins with you in the zodiac!
