Antarctica Activity Cruise - including all activities

Usually when going on an expedition cruise you pick one or two activities that you will enjoy throughout the cruise, but this Adventure cruise allows you to do many activities.
On our Antarctica adventure cruise you won't spend all your days at sea. The vessel you are travelling with will stay at a specific spot for two to three days, from there you can explore through a range of activities such as:
- polar camping
- kayaking
- snowshoe walking
- hiking
- mountaineering

Furthermore you can enjoy land excursions and zodiac cruises, and you can join photography workshops. All activities and excursions are included in the price
and special gear and field equipment will be provided. Some activities must be pre-booked prior to departure.
Please note that all activities ares subject to weather and prevailing ice conditions.

Note:
The following itinery is just a guideline, we do our utmost to provide the best experience, unfortunately we have no control over the weather or wildlife behaviour. We might visit the later named places but there is no guarantee. Ports of embarkation and disembarkation and sites may change depending on vessel and departure dates, weather- and ice conditions.

  • Ushuaia

Your Activity cruise journey starts at Ushuaia, Argentina that is located on the far southern tip of South America. We advise you to arrive one day before departure to help you adjust to the time difference and to start your upcoming Antarctica Cruise in a relaxed way.
After embarking the ship in the late afternoon, you will have some time to settle down on the ship and enjoy yourself a nice meal.

  • Drake Passage - At Sea

For the next two days you will be traveling the Drake Passage, were you will experience the true arctic waters. While on the water, make sure to be on te lookout for animals such as wandering albatrosses, cape pigeons, southern fulmars, petrels and maybe even whales.
The ocean takes on a whole new perspective once we are below the Antarctic Convergence and are surrounded by the surreal presence of floating ice sculptures. The memory of your first big iceberg sighting is likely to remain with you forever.

  • Entering Antarctica

Antarctica is a beautiful mysterious place that has inspired explorers, adventurers and dreamers over the decades. Remote, inhospitable, encircled by pack ice, huge tabular icebergs and covered with an ice sheet miles deep.
There are several places you might visit of which we have highlighted a few below.

  • Neumayer Channel

You might get the opportunity to join one of the activities here. Once the ship is positioned, it is possible for you to leave the vessel and enter the water on a zodiac or while kayaking. If the water is not what you are interested in than it is possible to go for snowshoe hikes and soft-climbing. All is only possible if the weather is in our favor.

  • Port Lockroy

After sailing through the Neumayer Channel, you may get a chance to visit the former British research station – now a museum and post office – of Port Lockroy on Goudier Island. You may also be able to partake in activities around Jougla Point, meeting gentoo penguins and blue-eyed shags. There are great opportunities also for kayaking or a snow show walk here, and when conditions are right, you can even enjoy polar camping and stay the night on the island.

  • Pléneau & Petermann Islands

If the ice conditions are right, you can sail through the Lemaire Channel. A beautifull narrow channel with high mountains on both sides. Often the water here is so calm it looks like a mirror reflecting the surroundings in the dark icy water. There’s always a chance you’ll stumble upon humpback or minke whales here, as well as leopard seals. Around Pléneau and Petermann Island it might be possible to kayak and go for a glacier walk.

  • Neko harbour

A breathtaking scenery of mammoth glaciers and wind-carved snow wherever you look, the Neko harbour is the perfect spot for a zodiac cruise and landing that afford the closest views of the surrounding alpine peaks.

  • Paradise Bay

The place to try out camping like a real polar explorer, enjoying an ultimate overnight Antarctic adventure. After dinner you will go ashore to find the camping site. Experienced guides will join you and give instructions on how to set up the tents and prepare yourself for a night out on the ice. If the weather is nice, you might get the opportunity to sleep in the open air.

  • Errera Channel

Possible sites in this area include Danco Island and Cuverville Island, but also the lesser known (jut as beautifull) Orne Island and Georges Point on Rongé Island.

On your last day of near-shore activities, you pass the Melchior Islands toward the open sea. Keep a sharp lookout for humpback whales in Dallmann Bay. You might also shoot for Half Moon Island, in the South Shetlands, with further chances for activities.

Conditions on the Drake Passage determine the exact time of departure.

  • Return

On the 10th day of our voyage it is time to return towards Ushuaia. We will, like before, spend two days at sea on our way back. All the beautiful nature and animals that have been seen on the open water before, will now be on display again. The 12 days of the Activity Cruise journey may be over but will remain in your memory forever.
